WHS Ceramics to display at Art & edibles Exhibit – Where Art, Food, and Community come together.
A few examples of the ceramic food project created by WHS Visual ARt students:
Peach- Bridget Noell, Banana- Liam Bry, and Avocado- Nora Markham.

WHS Visual ARts Ceramics students have been  invited to take part in the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield’s third annual Art & edibles exhibit. Since the beginning of the school year, Ceramic students have been working with clay, learning about wedging, glazing, and hand building techniques such as test tiles, pinch pots, joined vessels, and coil construction.  Successful hand building is based on quality craftsmanship and glazing is vital to the success of the finished piece. To showcase what they have learned, students were asked to recreate some type of food out of clay, and to make it as realistic as possible. Approximately 30 projects will be included in the show.

The public is invited to this free exhibit on Thursday, February 27 from 6 – 8pm; Friday, February 28 from 6 – 8pm; and Saturday, February 29 from 10am – 2pm at the Albion Cultural Exchange,  9 Albion Street in downtown Wakefield.

Art & edibles features the work of 20 Arts Collaborative of Wakefield artists who have been creating “food inspired art”.  Select works will be available for sale to attendees that include pieces for custom gifts, decorations, or new pieces to add to your collection.

Complimenting the food inspired art will be food for visitors to eat. Zuzu’s Café will provide appetizers and there will also be food tastings, discussions, and interactive cooking demonstrations by local restaurants and purveyors. The Savings Bank of Wakefield is sponsoring the event.

Local resident, Wendy Dennis, will be doing cooking demonstrations at 6:45 on Thursday and at 7 on Friday. Neighbor’s Acres Farm will present “Meet the Micro-Greens Maker” on Friday at 6:30. Closing out the exhibit on Saturday  at 11am, Grateful Tastes, will present “Meet the Maker” with a discussion about how to make jams & jellies using local ingredients.

The Albion Cultural Exchange, the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield and WHS Visual Arts hope to see you at the show.

Art 2 Atmospheric Perspective

Art 2 Atmospheric Perspective

Art 2 classes just finished up tempera landscape paintings with the focus on Atmospheric Perspective. Atmospheric perspective deals with how the appearance of an object is affected by the space or atmosphere.  As objects recede, detail disappears, values begin to get lighter, colors begin to fade and detail disappears.

WHSArt presents a First Thursday Art Exhibit at the Albion Cultural Exchange

WHSArt presents a First Thursday Art Exhibit at the Albion Cultural Exchange

The Wakefield High School Visual Arts Department is partnering with the Albion Cultural Exchange to host First Thursday Downtown on June 6 from 6:00-8:00 pm.  This event will be the last art exhibit for the 2018-2019 school year. It is very exciting to host this event featuring artwork from juniors, sophomores and freshmen art students at WHS.  The seniors have left the building and now it is time for the underclassmen to showcase their talents.

The projects for this upcoming show have been created in the past 6 weeks since Visual Arts Night that was in April. “Art students are constantly creating and it is important to show off their most recent work,” said Joy Schilling WHSVisual Arts Coordinator.  Included in this exhibit will be linoleum prints, copper tooling, paper maché masks, portraits, graphic design work and ceramics. First Thursday is a perfect opportunity for the public to see the great things that are happening in the Wakefield Arts Community.  Hope to see you on Thursday Night.
