Illustration “5 Panel Comic”

Illustration “5 Panel Comic”

In Illustration the students just completed their “5 Panel Comic”. For many in the class this type of illustration is clearly out of their comfort zone, and for others they loved it. Either way I felt all students gave a great effort.

Objective:   Students will create a 5-panel comic book page. The style of character is entirely up to you.  Think emotionally. Maybe recently something really funny happened to you or a friend. Maybe something sad, or  impressively crazy. Exaggerate that idea. Stretch your thought. Be creative, Choose from the following layouts and incorporate a different layout style in each panel.

  • close – up – Blurb (copy that relates to title)
  • medium shot – Title
  • long shot    – Splash Balloon
  • panoramic long shot – Gutter
  • birds eye view
  • worms eye view
  • silhouette

Objective skills Assessed:

Skill #1 – Students will illustrate with a smooth transition a comic utilizing a variety of the illustration styles listed. Including the gutter, students must use at least three listed.

Skill #2 – The element line is imperative with the use of media to express emotion, action, and space within you comic. Skillful use of media chosen will enhance this element.

Massachusetts Art Standard: 3:10 create 2D and 3D images that are original, convey a distinct point of view and communicates ideas.

Visual and Performing Arts Day was a Success

Visual and Performing Arts Day was a Success

On April 15, 2015 the WHS Visual and Performing Art students presented their talents to grades 1-8 during Visual and Performing Arts Day. VPAD is an annual event when students from middle and elementary school get to see the many courses and activities waiting for them in high school. WHS students were pleased to show off their hard work, display their talent and entertain everyone with their creativity and originality.

VPAD reinforces the positive impact art has on your life and the world you live in.

Reflective / Distorted Portraits

Reflective / Distorted Portraits

Illustration students worked on oversized drawing paper to create their own reflective / distorted portraits.  Students searched for a unique object that would reflect their image. Then with shading and a strong use of value they went ahead and illustrated their portraits. These have become great pieces to add to their portfolio’s.
