Art Club meets every Thursday after school in room 1243.
Students work on a variety of projects including drawing, painting, sculpture and some catch up on work due for art class. Art Club is set up on a drop in basis. Come after school on Thursday and create some art. For more information join the Art Club Google Classroom. Classroom code: 0jc60r1
The Visual Arts Department is looking forward to a great year. We have expanded in a few areas since last year.
As our numbers have grown considerably, we have a new .6 art teacher. I’m pleased to introduce Ms. Susan Teal; she will be teaching 3 sections of Art 1. When you get the chance welcome Ms. Teal into the WHS community. She will be teaching in rooms 1243 and 1247.
The Visual Arts Department has a new office space in room 1236. It is quite a bit of a mess right now but I’m sure we can work some magic over the next few weeks to put everything in it’s place.
Art Club meets every Thursday after school from 2:05-3:30 in room 1243. Art Club is open to everyone and there is no fee to join. Stop by after school on Thursday, September 13 for our first meeting. If you have any questions talk to Mrs Schilling or send an email to email@example.com.
Fright Night is coming to the Galvin Auditorium on the afternoon-evening of Thursday, October 25 featuring two showings at 4:00 and 7:00 of student made horror films. This is an awesome event, where you can check out some incredible student films created in the Video Production Classes. Admission to the movies is $5.00.
Before or after the movies you can stroll on down to the Beebe Library steps to see over 200 student-carved pumpkins created by WHS Art students. This tradition has been going on for 20 years and is always a popular, well attended event. Student-made treats from the Culinary Arts Classes including pumpkin whoopie pies, caramel apples, and chocolate chip cookies will also be available for sale in front of the library.
Art Exhibit featuring artists from the WHS Visual Arts Department June 7, 2018
The Wakefield High School Visual Arts Department is partnering with the Albion Cultural Exchange to host First Thursday Downtown on June 7 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This event will be the last art exhibit for the 2017-2018 school year and will feature artwork from juniors, sophomores and freshman art students at WHS. The projects for this upcoming show have been created in the past 6 weeks since Visual Arts Night that was in April.
“Art students are constantly creating and it is very exciting to be able to show off their most recent work,” said Joy Schilling WHSVisual Arts Coordinator. Included in this exhibit will be linoleum prints, paper maché masks, portraits, graphic design work and ceramics.
First Thursday is a perfect opportunity for the public to see the great things that are happening in the Wakefield Arts Community. Hope to see you on Thursday Night.
