Tie Dye 2014!

Tie Dye 2014!

Every year, Mr. Lashmit’s chemistry classes and Ms. Sharkey’s art classes participate in an interdisciplinary lesson about tie dye. Mr. Lashmit teaches about how the dye process works chemically and why the dyes are permanently bonded to a shirt, pants, socks or whatever the student wanted to bring in. Ms. Sharkey teaches about how to fold to make different patterns, such as a radial sunburst pattern, and what colors to use so that they blend well together. By teaching the “why” with the “how”, the students really get a full understanding of how dyes on clothes work and how understanding color and the color wheel can yield the best possible results. As always, it was a blast!

During second term, Art One focused on color. The color wheel project was done in colored pencil, reviewed tints and shades and also introduced different types of symmetry. Their final radial designs came out great!
